Today's paint color review we are diving in deep on Agreeable Gray. We will cover the nitty gritty and everything in between, from undertones, to LRV, to similar colors, and we'll take a look at some real-life examples of Agreeable Gray in homes.

Why is Agreeable Gray Still Popular in 2021?
Agreeable Gray has been going strong for a few years now, and it doesn't seem to be changing any time soon. After all, it is the number one selling paint color from Sherwin Williams!
Because of its versatility, it easily coordinates with many other colors, furniture, tile, flooring and more making it a very easy choice.
Designers, realtors, home owners alike are all drawn to its light, warm neutral color. It has depth, but not too much. It's a nice balance between grey and beige making it the ultimate greige paint color.
Some are speculating that gray is on its way out and that homeowners are asking for more warmth and less cool gray colors in their homes to create that ultimate cozy, inviting feeling. But because Agreeable Gray has warm undertones, it's still a popular choice and will continue to be for the next several years I imagine.

What is the Undertone of Agreeable Gray?
Agreeable Gray is often referred to as a chameleon color, meaning it can pick up the undertones and colors around it. This makes it a complex color because it looks different in any given room or setting, depending on the other colors and elements (flooring, tile, furniture, etc) in a room.
In general, Agreeable Gray is a warm gray paint color. It has properties of gray, but it has a touch of warmth or beige as well, making it an overall greige paint color.
People love it for its warmth while still looking like a grey paint color. Some grays can tend to look really cool or cold such as Sherwin Williams Passive , but Agreeable Gray has the happy medium balance. You can see why it's so popular, right?!

Agreeable Gray has slight green undertones, but they are minimal and not harsh. Whereas Sherwin Williams Eider White has pretty distinct pinky-purple undertones, Agreeable Gray is pretty subtle with the green undertones.
Again, the surrounding colors will affect overall how Agreeable Gray reads in a room if it has less green undertones that are noticeable.
It would look beautiful on the walls with white quartz countertops , white painted cabinets, and pretty wood plank flooring in the kitchen!
All in all, you know you are going to have a versatile paint color that works with a variety of rooms and decor styles when choosing Agreeable Gray.
The LRV of Agreeable Gray is 60. What does LRV mean? It stands for Light Reflective Value, and it's a fancy term that means how light a paint color is and how much light it reflects. LRV is on a scale of 0 to 100. The higher the number, the brighter and overall the color. A white is a 100 on the scale where jet black is 0.
Since Agreeable Gray falls on the scale at 60, it's just over the halfway mark of being a light color. This is a good range to stay if you like a little depth and don't want your walls to look "white". There are some colors that are considered gray or beige but because of the high LRV, they look white until you compare them to something that is a stark white.
Agreeable Gray will still look greige on your walls, but they won't look dark.

What Coordinating Colors Work with Agreeable Gray?
As I mentioned earlier, many different colors work well with Agreeable Gray. Everything from blue to white to black and even green all coordinate. You really can't go wrong!
For trim and doors, Pure White or Alabaster is my go-to white paint color and is a perfect pairing with Agreeable Gray. Want to see the 6 best paint colors for doors and trim? Read this.
Iron Ore, which is a really pretty dark charcoal would be stunning as a shiplap feature or on board and batten.
A very similar color to Agreeable Gray is Sherwin Williams Repose Gray. It is ever-so-slightly darker and has less warmth to it.
You can see below the two swatches side by side the subtle difference.
If you want more of a true gray, you might lean more towards Repose Gray.
Pro Tip: If you love the look of Agreeable Gray but want a lighter version, you can ask Sherwin Williams to mix it at 75% or however light you want it! This way you get the same color but it's toned down if you want it even lighter.
Another similar color is Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore. This color was super popular about 5 years ago or so and is still widely used. It also has warmth to it, making it a versatile greige paint color. I used Revere Pewter on our kitchen island and I really like the color. It's light but not too light!

Flooring That Matches Agreeable Gray
For flooring, I usually suggest sticking with a good neutral color that will never go out of style or feel too trending. You want something that will stand the test of time for years! One of my favorites is this beautiful white oak engineered plank floor.
It's a lighter flooring which hides dust but still has character with grain and wood knots.
Another great option for flooring is Scottsmour oak engineered plank floor. It's a little darker brown with more gray tones and less of the warmer beige tones.
Either two are excellent options that will coordinate with Agreeable Gray!
Sampling Paint Colors
The only way to know for sure if Agreeable Gray is the right color for your home is to sample it. I always suggest actually getting a sample of the paint color from Samplize and moving it around your home at different times of day so you can see the paint color when light hits it differently. It will look different at 7am than it will at 7pm, so by testing it on multiple walls at different times, you can decide!
It's also best to hold the sample next to your flooring, furniture, anything else in your room to make sure the paint color coordinates!

Paint Brush
You won't get very far without a good paint brush. A natural bristle with an angle is best for trimming and what I use 99% of the time. From painting cabinets to baseboard, this is the best brush on the market and is so much better than a cheapy brush.

Rollers
If you are painting walls, you'll want a good roller. Depending if you have textured walls or ceiling, you want a thicker nap to your roller. These are the rollers we typically use and love.

Wire Brush Comb
I didn't even know about this thing until my husband who used to paint on the side in college told me. It's a brush that you use to run through your paint brush when you are cleaning it to remove all the paint. It removes any dried paint from the paint brush and makes cleaning so much easier! You can even use it for scraping off paint from a surface before painting. A must-have!
